Week Four - Class Two

In class we continued to look and research at visual precedents, influential graphic styles and artists models. We also had the chance to get feedback and critique on things to improve on during the easter break. I got some got feed back from my tutor and a list of things to consider in my design. Over this class I kept on trying different designs making more developed layouts.

Week Four - Class One

Over this lesson we had a cross class interim Critique where we all had the chance to look at what everyone had been making, including the other streams. This was a great session to take in some inspiration and get some good feedback on understanding my own work. From this class I was paired up and was able to get some good feedback. From this feedback I have ideated and developed my layout designs even further.

Week Three - Class Two

Over the week I had been making some different layouts for my first spread for different ideas. In class we continued to explore new ways of layout compositions, this would also tie in with the mood we were trying to express. For class I got some useful feedback and critique on how I can change and develop my designs. I looked into the different elements across the spreads, in hierarchy of the context and how the page is laid out.

Over the weekend I have kept on researching into different artists and designer to get influential material. To prepare for the Interim presentation next Monday I have spent some time refining and reviewing my work. To help me follow a good working criteria and guide I have been looks at FADPs to help polish the look and layout of my compositions. being giving guides on the Grid template and some Mandatory text, I set about and constructed my first full 12 page layout for a cross class interim critique.

Week Three - Class One

In class we critiqued and looked at each others work to get some useful feedback for further development. This feedback was great for myself, in that saw a change in one of my designs for the better. We also looked at using a grid system and creating a couple of mock ups for ideas. The sketches reflected on what I was looking for in my work and a larger exploration in testing and experimenting. I have also continued to look at more visual precedents, influential graphic styles and artist models and ideate different images. In this research I have focused on images that involve and include type, image and a page layout.

Over the week I got my most successful thumbnail from class and set up a 12 page document at full size in Indesign. I started to play around and place text and import imagery for the subject overview and destination 1 destination spread.

Week Two - Weekend

Important aspects and elements that make my locations distinct from each other, I would like to add this difference in my designs and work to show variance and distinctiveness. Some elements that make my first location Mt Victoria track unique are its numerous amount of scenic view and its addition of a full three sixty degree view of Wellington. The City to Sea Walk, also offers a range of views but on the waterfront instead of being up via the forrest and hills. The Te Ahumairangi Hill offers a easy and straight ford walk with plenty of lookouts and significant cultural importance. Not only this but a walk above and around some monumentous land marks like the Beehive.

Over the weekend I have looked deeper into different styles and techniques that I enjoy and would like to incorporate in my own work. I have also continued to develop and make more collages and designs to narrow my thinking and choice of selection for a specific range. A range of designers and artists that have influenced my work are; Mike Monterio, Frank Chimero, Scott Hansen, and Violaine & Jeremy.

Week Two - Class Two

Having a better understanding of my locations and activity after researching and going to them, i experimented about, by using different materials to create a range of collages. Taking into account the arrangement of the elements I have displayed my works in a cohesive and communicating way.

The collages I have made all first present as being abstract and simplistic by the use of subtile cut images representing important and key elements around wellington. The boat sheds and water, symbolising the oriental parade and sea side walk. The hills and the scenic view's representing Mt Victoria and the Beehive and Cable car representing the Te Ahumairangi hill track. These collages are constructed from the photos and images I previously took.

Week Two - Class One

In the morning lecture, I gained a lot of information and understanding on semiotics, icons and symbols and the importance of the context. After finalising my choice of activity, I took the time in the weekend to research, and ideate further into different elements and components to my activity. In particular, items or components making that location special. This lead to more exploration around my distinguishing location with the intention of collecting distinctive fundaments.

After collecting more data and items around my locations, I have started to research and look into different designers and artists that I admire and would like to incorporate and be making. This research has given me a better perspective on design elements and fundamentels i can include and incorporate in my brochure.

Week One - Class Two

In class we were given the chance to critique each others ideas and ideate our work. This lead to some helpful and useful feedback in which I was able to narrow my selection down. From here I had a better idea on my activity and what I was making my brochure around. I had originally looked at doing walking around popular streets around Wellington, I am now looking at three popular walking tracks in Wellington. Mount Victoria, City to Sea walk and Te Ahumairangi Hill.

My next step of research is to go out and explore these places. This will consist of taking more photos and investigating out my surroundings, by doing this I believe i will get a better feel for what the points of difference and understanding are.
